How did a murder suspect awaiting extradition to the US escape from a Kenyan police station?

 

A man claiming to be Kevin Kang'ethe's lawyer showed up at Muthaiga, he was released from his cell & they were left alone. "Prisoner escaped by running away," a police report seen by CNN.

F"our police officers have been arrested in connection with Kevin Kinyanjui Kang'ethe's escape.

His real lawyers tell CNN that they were caught unawares and do not know where he is, describing it as a "dramatic escape"

Kevin Kang'ethe is accused of murdering his girlfriend Margaret Mbitu (by "stabbing her multiple times in the face and neck"), leaving her body in his SUV at Boston Logan Aiport and then flying to Kenya. He was arrested outside a club in Nairobi on January 30.Can anyone show up at a Kenyan police station, claim to be a suspect's lawyer and be left alone with them?The senior cop in Muthaiga was chairing a meeting at the time of the escape but "she was alerted by a loud noise of officers who were chasing the prisoner along Thika Super Highway but they did not manage to rearrest him."
